What is a cubic yard?

Imagine a box that is 1 yard (36 inches) wide, 1 yard deep, and 1 yard tall.  The mulch that would fill that box is 1 cubic yard.

A cubic yard is equal to 27 cubic feet.  Bagged mulch available everywhere is usually two cubic feet, so a cubic yard is equal to 13.5 bags.

A full-size pickup truck will hold about two cubic yards.

We can help you determine how much mulch you might need.  For instance, 1 cubic yard would cover an area seven feet wide by 15 feet long if spread to a three inch depth.  Two cubic yards would cover an area ten feet wide and 20 feet long.
